Perceived causes of internet abuse in Ondo Town, Nigeria

Abstract

The major purpose of this study was to find out the main causes of internet abuse in Nigeria as perceived by students, cybercafé managers, and members of the public. The respondendts consisted of 183 people randomly selected from among the three group of people named above, in Ondo Town, Nigeria. A91 item scale was derived empirically and administered on the respondents. 41 of these items were finally retained on the basis of their scale values. This was then subjected to factor analysis. 3 significant factors were retained as thus: Attitudinal, Social pressure and Government insensitivity. The results were discussed based on these factors and it was recommended that government should make enforcement laws and synergies with international security agencies to curb the menace of internet abuse in Nigeria.
